Description from the packaging.

The Russian Front... winter 1942-1943. As the German Sixth army slowly starves in the devastated city of Stalingrad, the Soviets launch a second onslaught against the Wehrmacht. The objective: Encircle and destroy the German garrison entrenched at the vital rail junction of Velikiye Luki. Lieutenant General Perkayev's Third Shock Army, reinforced with three separate corps. was assigned the mission. Defending the sector were two understrength but heavily fortified German divisions plus a number of rear area security and support troops. All roads in the near-trackless wilderness ran through Velikiye Luki. The stage was set for one of the most bitterly fought battles on the Eastern Front.

Exhaustive historical research is evident in the highly differentiated factors for range barrage, support, conventional and antitank fire, defense and morale assigned to each unit.

A well designed historical simulation is always very satisfying conceptually but all too often extremely tedious in the execution. Command Simulations has employed advanced personal computer technology to do for wargaming what the computerized spread sheet did for accounting- most of the work and all of the calculations. White Death is adapted from the GDW game of the same name which won, in the year in which it was released, the Game Designers Guild Award and F&M's Best Operational Game Award.
