Description from the packaging.

Solarism Version 1.1 by James Tursa.

Solarism is like having a planetarium in your personal computer. Solarism is a dynamic 3-D graphics simulation of our solar system and the nearby star systems.

Solarism displays the motion of the solar system graphically in a three dimensional view from a user selectable point in space.

Solarism is "worlds" better than its nearest competitor at a fraction of the cost. It simulates the motion of the planets, 250 asteroids and comets, and includes over 800 stars, nebulae and galaxies. And the best feature of all- you can add more!

Solarism has the unique feature of allowing you to add orbital parameters to the database for any asteroids, comets, etc. that you desire. You can also add stars to the heavens by entering their locations and descriptions. As you can tell, the possibilities are infinite!

Solarism is great for stellar navigation, tracking comets and planets, learning the positions and shapes of the constellations, and just having fun on your computer. It comes with a comprehensive 50-page manual that even includes a chapter on the equations of motion used in the program.

Solarism will also display the motion in right ascension-declination as viewed from any planetary body. The positions of the stars are displayed, and constellations will even be drawn, if the user selects that option. For a twist, how about viewing the Solar System from the perspective of Halley's Comet as it made it's 1985 trek past the Sun! Solarism also displays the positions of the stars and planetary bodies for a particular date and time at the viewer's longitude and latitude.

Solarism features:

  • 3-D dynamic simulation of the solar system.
  • View simulation from any point in space and at any date (even runs backwards!).
  • Right ascension-declination (RA-DEC) plots as viewed from any object.
  • Database includes 250 asteroids and comets (including Halley's), and over 800 stars, nebulae and galaxies.
  • You can add more stars, planetoids, to the database.
  • View the sky in any direction at any point on the Earth and at any date and time.
  • Print out screens and orbital data tables.
  • Constellations are displayed.
  • All program segments include an Identify mode, which enables you to identify and obtain data on any displayed star, object or constellation.
  • Comprehensive 50-page manual.
