Description from the packaging.

Say goodbye to gridlock.

Ever want to get behind the wheel and race like a madman through the streets of a teeming metropolis. Here's your chance to careen your way through Chicago traffic that's thicker than a deep dish pizza. Forget everything you learned in Driver's Ed. Run every stop sign, drive the wrong way, or gun-it to jump a drawbridge. No-rules racing means doing whatever it takes to win.

Win five unique racing modes, ten unique cars, and wide-open, unbridled, pedal-to-the-metal racing, Midtown Madness is the only antidote for rush-hour blues. Now that's racin' Chicago style!

Five ways to race.
1. Try to beat the clock as you blitz down boulevards and back alleys.
2. Charge your way through checkpoint races.
3. Blow lap-racing wide open via city-centered circuit races.
4. Drive without competition and learn every back-alley shortcut in cruising mode.
5. Race online or challenge opponents in a cops and robbers multiplayer chase.

Anything goes.
Rules and stoplights are for wimps! Learn the city and you'll be powering through intersections and ducking into alleyways to find the best shortcuts. Smash through a shopping mall, outrun the cops, or play chicken with the planes at the airfield.

You are what you drive.
Speed demons drive a Panoz GTR-1 racecar, Hipsters get groovy in the nimble VW New Beetle, Good Buddies give the Freightliner Semi a big 10-4, and muscle car fans bullet through the streets in a '67 Mustang Boss 302.

It's your kinda town.
Hold on tight for a turning, torquing, top-speed tour of Chicago-land- complete with landmarks and hundreds of interactive objects. Plow into dumpsters, parking meters, street lights, and anything else that gets in your way.

Michigan Avenue.
Enlist with Chicago's finest or be on the wrong side of the law and race against eight online opponents in a hard-driving cops and robbers chase through the mean streets of the windy city.

Midtown Madness features include:

  • Realistically modeled driving performance for ten unique cars.
  • Multiple viewpoints including in-car with dash and chase views.
  • Set weather and time-of-day conditions plus adjustable traffic, pedestrian, and cop density.
  • Realistic damage models and real-time interactive police network.
  • In-game commentary by Chicago radio personality Marty Lennartz, "The Regular Guy."
  • Other cars include '99 Ford Mustang GT and police cruiser, Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe, Panoz Roadster, Ford F350 truck, and even a city bus.
