Prairie Dunes can hardly be farther from the sea and yet it is known as a "seaside" course because of its rolling sandhills, characteristic of a true Scottish Links. Vaunted by professionals as one of America's toughest courses, Prairie Dunes is a course for thinkers, rewarding the good shots and punishing the weaker ones. Built in 1937 by Perry Maxwell at the height of the Depression, the course is blended intuitively into the natural terrain creating treacherous and well protected greens with severe roughs.

Prairie Dunes is ranked among the top 20 courses in America; its number 8 and 10 holes make most golfing publication's list of the greatest golf holes in America.
