Description from the packaging.
As the final war at sea continues, can NATO maintain its lifeblood of supply... or will the USSR sever the artery?
The war continues, the early attrition on both land and sea is devastating. Without the ability to get men and material from the America's to the European theatres of combat quickly and without excessive losses, NATO will lose the war and Russia will dominate the world.
With 90% of NATO's resupply coming by sea, and for the first time in it's history the shores of the United States under direct military threat, as the Commander of NATO's North Atlantic Naval Task Force, you are again called upon to determine how best to utilize the forces under your command.
But this time you must protect the shores of North America, as well as achieve "Maximum tonnage landed" versus "tonnage destroyed at sea" for the convoys that will resupply the NATO land forces engaged in the war in Europe.
Even with the additional strength of the French and Spanish Navies that have joined your command, you must make the decisions that determine who wins or loses World War III.
Harpoon/Convoy is real.
Based on established convoy escort tactics from World War I through to the Falklands Conflict, as well as projected scenarios taught in NATO Naval academies, this battleset will put you in the Admiral's seat. You alone will determine the tactics and strategies that can best get men and materials across the Atlantic in the face of heavy concentrations of enemy submarines and long range bombers.
Harpoon/Convoy is powerful.
Already the most comprehensive and detailed naval tactical simulation available, this battleset continues the Harpoon tradition of absolute authenticity as well as giving you multiple option action choices via pull down menus.
And one of the most striking options that Harpoon gives you is the ability to play on the side of your choice. You can take the role of the NATO Commander in one scenario, then become Commander of the Russian forces in the next!
Harpoon/Convoy is about control.
He who controls Keflavik controls the North Atlantic. And without the vital airfield at Keflavik, NATO will soon be on the ropes. If you can't control the initial surge of Russian submarines into the North Atlantic you can say goodbye to most of your merchant fleet. And if you can't quickly control the first few days of carnage you may have nothing left for escort duties. But you, and only you, are in control.
Harpoon/Convoy is about the unknown.
Some of the options available to you in this battleset have never been tested, either in battle, or in simulation. The questions you will be faced with are questions that have as yet been unanswered.
In fact, this is the first serious, unclassified examination of how best to resupply a major land force by sea under modern warfare conditions.
You may end up making history.
Or, you may end up wishing you hadn't!
