Description from the packaging.
The final war at sea: NATO vs. USSR.
Harpoon is a startling and realistic view of how NATO and the USSR will face off. As the Commander of NATO's North Atlantic Naval Task Force, calling upon a devastating arsenal of weapons and technology, you alone must face the awesome power of a Soviet battle fleet. Mastermind the tactics and strategies that will win the war at sea. Harpoon simulates and challenges in a way that a mere game cannot.
Harpoon is excitement.
Somewhere in the desolate and freezing wastes of the North Atlantic between Iceland and the Kola Peninsula you will control the battle in the air, as well as on and beneath the sea. You will stalk your enemy with a variety of sensors, sonars and radars, just as he will engage in the same deadly "Cat and Mouse" games with you. You can also choose to play as either the NATO or the USSR commander.
Harpoon is authentic.
With an arsenal of more than 100 of the most current NATO and Soviet weapons systems at your disposal- Harpoon is modern naval warfare.
Harpoon is expandable.
This first battleset of twelve scenarios makes up "Showdown in the North Atlantic." Each scenario reflects what could happen as a result of current world events. Future battlesets focus on other possible "Hot Spots."
Harpoon is Larry Bond.
Created by Larry Bond, Naval Analyst and author of Red Phoenix, Harpoon benefits from the thousands of hours Bond has spent compiling his database. It is the most factually complete and realistic military simulation available today.
Harpoon is informative.
Harpoon's massive database contains technical specifications of all the weapons systems, both your and the Soviets. Each weapon's platform has several levels of information accompanied by Larry Bond's insightful commentary.
Harpoon is immediate.
With your own staff assistant leading you through the fundamentals of the game, you can be in command in minutes. Every decision is yours. The tedious administrative chores are left to your Staff Assistant, so you can concentrate on the big picture.
Harpoon is finesse.
Because each scenario can be affected by multiple factors, and you alone are in total control, judgement calls must be made that balance both logic and intuition. As you become more experiences, Harpoon will continue to test your growing expertise. Your improving skills will be challenged by Harpoon's increasing sense of urgency.
That's why Harpoon is much more than a mere game.
