Description from the packaging.

After Stalingrad, after Kursk, comes the Dnieper River Line.

The clock reads 0400. Throughout the long night reports have been filtering back to you at Regimental Headquarters of Soviet movements across the river. All along the Dnieper River your troops are dug in, nervously awaiting the expected Russian onslaught. Slowly you are aware of a growing rumble in the East- the Russian artillery barrage has begun!

Suddenly all your lines are abuzz at once. Fourteenth Medium Panzer reports Russian units in sector 9-10. Eight Recon dug in around Zhlobin announces T-34's are on the outskirts of the city. The commander of Third Fallshirm-jaeger reports his troops are being furiously attacked by two Red infantry units supported by SU85's. Breathlessly he demands reinforcements be hurried to his sector.

Realizing that this is the long-dreaded Soviet offensive, you place an urgent call to Army Group South HQ. General Manstein is soon on the line. You demand fresh units be rushed at once if you are to be expected to hold the line. The General calmly replies that 5 Heavy Panzer will arrive in two hours. Exasperated at his seeming lack of concern, you pick up another buzzing phone...

This is the Dnieper River Line, a computer game that depicts a fictionalized engagement between the Russian and German forces in the southern Ukraine using as its historical basis the Soviet thrust over the Dnieper River in late 1943. The game challenges you, the German player, to repel Russian efforts to breach this critical defensive position. Soviet units, controlled by the computer, seek to overrun the thin German line and capture sufficient objectives to assure victory.

Complicating the situation are Russian capabilities such as Sturmovik attacks, artillery barrages, partisan and paratroop attacks and unknown Soviet objectives. Aiding the German player are passive defensive measures such as garrison troops and minefields, as well as on-map and off-map artillery support. In addition, forces on both sides will be drawn from a total of 15 different types of units of varying strengths and capabilities ranging from Infantry and Reconnaissance units to Assault guns and Tank-Destroyer units.

Dnieper River Line includes:

  • Full color 8" x 11" mapboard.
  • 240 5/8" Illustrated counters.
  • Instruction Booklet.
  • Software for your computer.
