Description from the packaging.
Mindscape's Educational Division combines a tradition of educational experience with a dedication to meeting today's demand for new approaches to education. The result is innovative software for schools and homes that fully utilizes the computer to make serious learning rewarding for students.
Brainstorms is a collection of thirteen clever, challenging learning games that motivate students to sharpen their critical thinking and problem solving skills. The games are fun, but they also help expand vocabulary, mathematical and discrimination skills.
Zap
In this game, designed for two players, youngsters try to force their opponent to remove the last block from a standard pyramid of blocks. Players are given lots of practice in using strategy and planning ahead.
Graminoes
Students sharpen their vocabulary and word attack skills by blending word parts to form correct words.
Crossnot
Youngsters get lots of practice in plotting points on a grid in an effort to place geometric shapes without overlapping them! This game provides practice in a skill often tested in many intelligence tests- spatial relations and part/whole relationships.
Havafit
Havafit is an extension of Crossnot. Students expand their imagery skills by placing shapes on a grid but, here, they can rotate them in one of four directions to fit. The goal is for the player to plan so that the last placement leaves no room for an opponent's piece.
Duzzit
In this game, a secret word is hidden among a list of 40 words. The player must guess the word using as few hints as possible. Duzzit is an enjoyable way to sharpen deductive reasoning skills while building vocabulary.
Izzit
Izzit provides practive in hypothesis formation and application of numerical rules as students try to guess a secret number. Hints following each incorrect guess will aid students in narrowing down the possibilities.
Amagrams345
Youngsters vie at being the first player to unscramble a series of letters to form a word. Word lengths are variable and students have the opportunity to change a letter. Word attack skills, as well as dictionary skills will be challenged here!
Solvit
In this game students must apply mathematical rules to a series of numbers. How does this given set of numbers produce a formula to equal a given answer? Students practice addition, subtraction and multiplication facts while exploring possible solutions.
Roadmap
Students can take many paths to reach the end but they must find one that equals the correct solution! Played against a timer, students must not only add a series of numbers accurately but also quickly!
Boxword
Players challenge each other to form the first word from adjacent letters that they've placed on a 4x4 grid.
Delta9
Youngsters attempt to outsmart their opponent and be the first player to complete five triangles.
Faces
A delightful game to practice deductive reasoning skills and pattern identification. By guessing from a choice of five facial features, students try to create a secret face.
Changers
A vocabulary game in which players add, subtract or change a letter to form new words.
Brainstorms contains an extensive variety of activities that can be used Dr an entire class or to challenge brighter students. It is an ideal way to motivate students who complete their regular assignments with time to spare. The games are so much fun that youngsters don't realize that they re learning.
It is designed for grades 4-7. Scores are saved for Duzzit, Izzit, Faces, Roadmap (1-player version) and Solvit (1-player version).
