Description from the packaging.

The Game: In Chickamauga you command a Union or Confederate army of about 50,000 men: brigades of infantry or cavalry with attached artillery. The computer keeps track of every individual man or gun, along with changing unit morale, fatigue, and communication status. The battlefield is a large scrolling map. You can give your army orders with surprising ease, using keyboard or joystick. Both sides' orders are resolved simultaneously, with movement and combat shown as they happen on a strategic display. All the important features of Civil War battles are treated: fire and melee, entrenchments, the power of Union mounted infantry armed with repeating rifles. And because you only see the enemy front line (and he only sees yours), the game features realistic feints, bluffs, and surprise attacks.

You can play with a friend, or the computer will take either side at any of three levels of difficulty.

Chickamauga also offers unprecedented flexibility of options: many features- like morale, visibility, fatigue- can be turned on or off in the middle of the game; you can start the battle on the second day; you can save a game to disk; you can even switch sides with the computer during play.

The Battle: In September of 1863, the Confederate Army of Tennessee, secretly reinforced from Virginia by Longstreet's Corps, reversed their retreat to attack the pursuing Union army near Chickamauga Creek. The battle that followed was one of the hardest fought and most evenly matched of the Civil War.

Chickamauga is the most accurate and realistic battle game available for any computer. And every feature, from graphic displays to entry of orders, is designed to make play easy and enjoyable. Programmed entirely in machine language.
