U.S. Invades Japan!
Experience World War II aircraft and combat as they might have been in this exciting expansion disk for Aces of the Pacific. Fly ferocious experimental jets. Join aerial combat missions in the planned U.S. invasion of Japan. Plus, all-new Aces of the Pacific features are included free with the version 1.2 upgrade software.
Reeling from Russia's surprise declaration of war, shocked by the atomic blasts and torn by internal politics, Japan surrendered unconditionally to the United Nations on August 14, 1945, ending the cataclysm of World War II.
But what if events were different? What if World War II did not end in 1945? What if the U.S. had abandoned atomic weaponry? If Russia had avoided involvement? If the Japanese military imposed its desire to prolong world war? What might have happened in the last days of World War II: 1946?
World War II: 1946 is based on extensive research of historical Allied war plans and documents. You will fight the battles that could have been if the U.S. had launched a 1946 invasion of Japan. Fly prototype aircraft, including the first jet fighters. Participate in a fictional scenario that simulated Operation Olympic, the Allied plan for a full-scale assault on the beaches of Japan. Then, join the never-realized Operation Coronet and make the final push towards Tokyo!
Soar the skies in one of Japan's last piston-engined fighters, the JW7 Shinden. Fast, sleek, and heavily armed, this powerful bird was one of the oddest designs ever built!
Duel over Honshu in the best of the best, the P-80 Shooting Star, America's first operative jet fighter.
Fly Japan's last hope to stem the Allied aerial flood. The Kikka, based on Germany's Messerschmitt 262, was Japan's only jet aircraft near production at war's end.
Wreak havoc in the clouds with the heavily armed and virtually indestructible Grumman Tigercat.
