Publisher Label
From Eli's Software Encyclopedia
Often larger software publishers will differentiate product brands by selling titles with different brand names. These brand names are referred to as 'labels'. This also sometimes occurs when one software publisher acquires another software publisher and continues to publish software under both names.
Examples of current labels:
- EA Sports is a label of Electronic Arts
Examples of labels created by acquisitions:
- Microprose began as an independent company and was later acquired by Spectrum Holobyte, then Hasbro Interactive and then Infogrames all while maintaining a regular release of titles under the Mindscape brand name.
- Mindscape became a label of Software Toolworks
