Description from the packaging.

A game of planetary conquest.
Includes two different style maps! A space-naval warfare game, based on the Solomon Campaign of 1942-43. Naval combat- on a galactic scale!

Worlds At War is a game of real strategy for one or two players. It's a game of naval and amphibious combat, on a galactic scale. Simple in concept, Worlds At War can be played in an hour as a small tactical study with the flavor of a chess game; or for a weekend, as a campaign game with vast regions of territory to explore, huge fleets to maneuver, and neutral planets to conquer.

The scrolling battle map can be configured for any size from 10 x 10 through 50 x 50. The size of the map profoundly affects game length and strategy.

Pieces represent base planets, neutral planets, task forces of different types, bomber formations, missile barrages, scouts, and marine landing craft. You start the game with a certain number of production points and build a fleet based on the strategic requirements of the randomly generated star map. A small trickle of supplies will reach you base planet each turn, but the game is primarily one of tactical combat, not production.

Other features:

72 Page manual covering gameplay and discussing "How to attack neutral planets,", "Three suggested strategies,", "Developing a scouting plan," and "Massing versus dispersion."

A victory point graph lets you asses your play and plan your moves. It displays neutral planet points and total points for each turn of the game.

A full map view gives you a snapshot view of the battle. Map controls enable you to highlight the different components of your fleet.

The side bar display shows planet and task force production schedules, flight operations, unit status, and combat results. Two exit windows provide system feedback and game information.

Full game save including auto-save.

  • Victory screen showing neutral planets taken by both sides and total victory points for both sides.
  • Naval map showing production/flight level allocation and hyperspace connections between planet systems.

"...what this game has is play value. Much like the very popular Empire and its variants you have several viable strategies and every new game has a randomly generated map that provides fresh challenges." - Bob Proctor, Computer Gaming World.
