- Two categories of play: Exhibition Season and the Konami Tournament Mode.
- Three levels of difficulty: Junior, College and Pro.

It's a knockout.
When the action heats up, you'll have to duck, jab, throw punches and literally fight for victory. The full-blown fight scene is incredibly detailed, from the fire in the eyes to the knuckles on the fist. And after the final knockout punch, the loser will be dragged to the Penalty Box, and the winner will take charge of a Power Play!
Face the challenge.
From the second the ref drops the puck for the face-off, it's six on six, pro-style hockey at its best. Eight of your favorite teams are here for you to captain: Los Angeles, Montreal, Edmonton, Minnesota, New York, Vancouver, Toronto, and Chicago. And each player is programmed so you can be as quick and ferocious on screen as a real life hockey star is on ice.
Score one for skill.
Everything's here. From quick-wristed passing, to 100 mph slap shots, to blocking, stealing and crushing arch rivals against the boards. You control all the action. Attack the goal with your forwards. Use your defensemen to bust up and intimidate opponent scoring leaders. Even command and control the most important man on the ice- your "protect the net at all costs" goalie.
Prepare for sudden death.
Whether you're battling to keep your victory dreams alive in Sudden Death Overtime or trying to rack up Penalty Shot Points, the one-on-one (slap shooter versus goalie) scene is one of the most intense competition modes you'll ever confront. It'll prove once and for all just how tough a goaltender or slap shooter you really are.
